Shauna-Maria Andolina

Navel to Navel

He takes me where

a side of mayonnaise is eight dollars.

Chef presents fried zucchini blossoms

spiced with devils-blood dressing.

We lay navel to navel, pretending

one will never abandon the other.

His stomach cajoles mine

while a squirrel on the other side of the wall

steals a stale corn husk from the gutter.

Rain starts to finally drain.

In the Belly of a Creek

A grizzly stares down

hunched, patient, silent—

the trout’s spine weaves through her teeth
