FEDERICA SANTINI

 RETURN TO BOCCA DI MAGRA

mermaid

The ugly voices of mermaids

keep us far from the beach

and the coffee at the kiosk

is cold, almost tasteless.

Muted, from the receiver

their words keep the dead as

unknown as before. Voiceless, we will

not return to the beach of the dead.

Flies hover on tainted seaweed

amassed in disorderly piles

your accents lose their variations

in a tangle of cuttlefish bones.
