THE NOCTURNAL COMMUNION
I’ve lost myself in a gurgling of voices
in the shadow of this bistro,
where I sit alone,
where I sip a real good wine
and wait for my steak cooked rare,
in communion with that eternal living life
like a gnat around a flame.
CON TE LA DOMENICA
Accanto a te la domenica
non ho un bel niente da fare.
Ascoltare il rumore della strada
in questa tua giornata di grigiore
mi regala la pace
che mi ostinavo a cercare
negli altri sgargianti giorni della settimana.
Così il fuoco è più focolare
e la capanna più casa.
WITH YOU ON SUNDAY
Beside you on Sunday
I don’t have anything to do.
Listening to the sounds of the street
on this grey day of yours
gives me the peace
that I have persisted in searching for
on the other garish days of the week.
And so the fire is more a hearth
and the hovel more a home.
